Ryan Garcia Next Fight: ‘Tank’ Davis, or Teofimo?

Ryan Garcia Next Fight vs Javier Fortuna

Potential boxing megastar Ryan Garcia came through the latest test in his ring education Saturday night and now attention turns to his next fight.

Garcia, seen as the rightful successor by many to his promoter Oscar De La Hoya as boxing’s exciting ‘Golden Boy’ and ticket seller, improved to 23-0 (19 inside distance) with a sixth-round TKO of Javier Fortuna.

Now there are mouthwatering options for Garcia both at lightweight (135lbs) and up at super lightweight (140lbs). But which way will he go?

Here is all you need to know about what might come next for King Ryan.

Ryan Garcia Next Fight Odds

Right after he finished off Fortuna in Round 6, Garcia talked about two potential opponents – Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis at 135lbs or Teofimo Lopez at 140. Both huge huge fights, but with major stumbling blocks.

Everything in top-level boxing comes down to promotional and broadcast rights, and Garcia is in a different camp to both ‘Tank’ and Teofimo.

Garcia is promoted by De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which has an exclusive broadcast deal with streaming platform DAZN. ‘Tank’ meanwhile is with Floyd Mayweather Promotions and Showtime, while Teofimo is Top Rank and ESPN. Confused? You should be. Basically it all means those are mighty tough fights to make.

Just for info, some sportsbooks are already offering a line on ‘Tank’ vs Ryan Garcia, and the odds are not pretty for the L.A. man. He’s a +500 (bet $100 to win $500) underdog while Davis is the overwhelming -700 (bet $700 to win $100) favorite. Ouch…

When does Ryan Garcia’s next fight start?

No news yet, we’re just hours out from his most recent fight. The smart money is that he’ll be back late in 2022 for his next bout – potentially November or December.

How to watch the fight on TV or live stream

All of Ryan Garcia’s fights air on streaming platform DAZN. It has a contract with De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.

DAZN, which calls itself the ‘Netflix of sports’, has lost a ton of money so far and is now trying to recoup those losses by betting on boxing.

You can watch the fight on TV or live stream by subscribing to DAZN on either a monthly or an annual package. The cost is $19.99 for just a month or you can pony up $149.99 for a year.

Ryan Garcia weight

Garcia fights in boxing’s stacked lightweight division – the 135lbs weight class is full of superstars including Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr.

Saturday’s fight vs Fortuna though took place at 140lbs, but don’t read into it that Ryan needs to move up yet. That was down to Fortuna wanting the extra weight.

Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis anybody?

A fight with ‘Tank’ has been mooted for a long time – both men have terrific power and star quality. As ever though, it is boxing’s politics slowing things down.

Ryan Garcia Record

Ryan Garcia, born in Los Alamitos in California on August 8, 1998, is now 23 years of old and has the boxing world at his feet. He stands 5ft 10ins tall (1.78m) and has a reach of 70ins (1.78m).

Garcia has a pro record of 23-0 with 19 of those victories coming inside distance. He has a left hook which would stop a mule – just like De La Hoya. The comparisons just keep on coming.

Ryan has also showed he can come through adversity, getting off the floor to stop plucky Brit Campbell in early 2021.

Garcia, like we said, has fought just once since that Campbell win – a decision win over Emmanuel Tagoe in April 2022. Before that he had endured a hand injury and taken some time out to take care of his mental health.
