Tyreek Hill Trade: Chiefs SB odds now out to +1000

Mar 23, 2022Dec 23, 2022 Stryker Maguire

Kansas City picked up five draft picks in the trade of WR Tyreek Hill to Miami on Wednesday, but online sportsbooks did not immediately like the move.

The Chiefs sent away one of their most talented players – and arguably their most devastating weapon of all – in another blockbusting offseason deal.

Already this offseason we have had (among others) Russell Wilson being dealt to Denver, Green Bay wideout Davante Adams heading for Las Vegas, Deshaun Watson becoming a Brown and Matt Ryan being moved to Indianapolis.

The news on Wednesday that Hill was being shipped down to South Beach was as surprising as any of those above moves, given the success he had enjoyed catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

Tyreek Hill trade package

But reportedly Tyreek and KC could not agree on a contract extension, which left the Chiefs deciding it was time to cut ties. Miami eventually won the race for his acquisition and will give up the following to get him:

  • 1 first-round draft pick in 2022
  • 1 second-round draft pick in 2022
  • 1 fourth-round draft pick in 2022
  • 1 fourth-round draft pick in 2023
  • 1 sixth-round draft pick in 2023

As for Hill, he becomes the NFL’s highest-paid receiver, with a staggering new deal worth $120million over four years. The pact includes a whopping $72.2million in guaranteed money.

Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl odds

Obviously we now expect Kansas City to replace Hill, but for now that vaunted Chiefs offense looks a whole lot weaker. And sportsbooks reacted accordingly when they reviewed the odds to win Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona next February.

Andy Reid’s crew had been as big as +900 to win the big game, but now they are even bigger at +1000.

Like we said, we expect the Chiefs to reinforce the wide receiver room, but for now it’s so much weaker than it was earlier today. Time to retool for Mahomes.

As for the Dolphins and their Super Bowl odds, the reaction was positive. But acquiring a WR is not like acquiring a franchise QB. Miami is now as low as +3500 in the odds, having been around +6000 to start the day.
