Shields vs Marshall odds, TV details & a +340 pick

Oct 15, 2022Dec 23, 2022 Stryker Maguire

Forget Crawford vs Spence and Fury vs Joshua, Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall might be the most exciting superfight of 2022 and the odds tell you how close it is.

Two women who absolutely hate each other are finally set to get it on for a second time after both registered comfortable victories on the other side of the pond recently.

Shields defeated Emma Kozin in February with a comfortable points victory, and Marshall raised the stakes Saturday by absolutely destroying Femke Hermans inside three rounds.

The bout had been initially slated to take place Saturday September 10 in London, England. But that changed following the death just 48 hours before of the UK’s Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.

Shields vs Marshall Odds

The odds could not be closer right now, with Shields the very slight favorite:

Shields vs Marshall Boxing Betting Picks

Our expert is all over this one – he loves him some Savannah and he believes her greater power can carry the day against the busier, more skilful approach from Claressa.

He has a +340 pick for the big fight and you can click here to read his big-fight analysis and predictions.

We also have big-fight picks and predictions for two major matches this weekend – Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius in Brooklyn and Devin Haney vs George Kambosos Jr 2 in Melbourne, Australia.

When is Shields vs Marshall

The rescheduled bout takes place Saturday night, October 15, 2022 and takes place at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Ring walks will take place between 5pm and 6pm Eastern Time in the U.S. – that’s between 2pm and 3pm PST.

Shields vs Marshall TV channel

The bout will air on ESPN+ in the United States.

Shields vs Marshall Weights

The weighin took place Friday October 14 in London, England, and both fighters came in at 159.3lbs – comfortably under the middleweight limit of 160lbs.

Why do Shields and Marshall hate each other?

The beef is genuine here, not the stage-managed BS we normally get in boxing. And it dates back years.

Shields has only ever lost one fight in her life – amateur or pro – and it happened back in 2012 at the World Amateur Championships. The woman who beat her that day = one Savannah Marshall.

Yep, this is a fight that has been making for a decade, it had to happen. And now – at least – it seems like it will.

Both women are doing their bit to promote the whole thing – Savannah was ringside earlier this year when Shields fought in February, and Shields was in Newcastle to watch Marshall. The dislike is clear and the whole thing is working.

What was Shields’ view on Saturday after watching Savannah?

“I’m going to match her with power, I’m going to match her with skills, defence. She’s going to feel like she’s an amateur. She’s going to think she’s in there fighting a man, she’s outmatched.

“I’ve already decided to come back and fight her in the UK. To fight her in her hometown is giving up a big advantage for me. We need to fight somewhere in the UK like the O2 or Wembley, this fight is huge. We need some neutral fans so the fans can’t sway the judges. Have it somewhere in Wembley or the O2. That’s fair to me.”

“The fact she’s tried to take away from all my accomplishments and trying to degrade me saying she beat me ten years ago, yes it’s personal and that’s why I’ll personally whoop her ass.”

This should be epic…

Claressa Shields Record

Claressa Shields – from Flint, Michigan – calls herself the GWOAT (Greatest Woman Of All Time) and with pretty good reason. She won two Olympic gold medals for the U.S. in London and Rio in 2012 and 2016.

Since then all the self-styled GWOAT – now aged 27 – has done is build a 12-0 pro ledger and become the undisputed world super-lightweight champion.

Many experts believe this fight is puncher vs boxer, and Claressa’s record backs that up. She hasn’t stopped anybody since her fourth pro fight back in 2017. The last eight have all gone the distance with every one ending with a Shields win by UD. Guess that’s why Savannah calls her ‘pillow fists’.

Shields btw has a pretty good mentor as she looks to build the PPV for the Marshall showdown. She is managed by a certain Mark Taffet – the man who built up HBO into a behemoth from the early 1990s on. He believes she has Floyd Mayweather-like talent and worth ethic when it comes to building fights.

Savannah Marshall Record

Savannah Rose Marshall, from Hartlepool in the north east of England, is the WBO middleweight champion of the world. She turns 31 on May 19 and has a perfect professional record of 12-0 – just like Shields.

The big difference here appears to be the power. Savannah has 10 wins inside distance, culminating in that impressive destruction of the tough Hermans in Newcastle on April 2.

Marshall won her world title with a seventh-round stoppage of Scotland’s Hannah Rankin (a Shields victim too) in 2020, and has since defended it three times – all three fights ending inside three rounds.

Shields vs Marshall undercard

Okay so here where it gets even more interesting – we have a fight on the undercard which would be a show topper on most nights.

Mikaela Mayer vs Alycia Baumgardner will square off for the title of undisputed super-featherweight champion of the world on the same card. Terrific stuff. And not a PPV sticker in sight.

We love this…
