Travon Walker Draft Odds: The freak heads #1 race

Apr 28, 2022Dec 23, 2022 Stryker Maguire

Travon Walker is the name on everybody’s lips heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, so what are the odds on where the Georgia freak will go Thursday night?

A couple of weeks ago many people were predicting he might go top 10, but now – just like that – he is favorite to go #1 overall in one of the wildest races for the top pick in memory.

No generational quarterback talent means a ton of uncertainty about what teams will do in the top 5 – doubtless a few of them would love to trade out of those positions. But with no elite QBs, also no dice.

Here’s the latest odds on what might happen to Travon on Thursday night in Las Vegas (8pm ET).

Will Travon Walker be the first overall pick?

Well the odds right now suggest he will be, and you need to remember who is picking.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have Trent Baalke as their GM, and Baalke has a history of choosing players with elite physical traits – even if they haven’t produced at a high level yet.

Walker’s measurables are just incredible but he just hasn’t put up elite numbers at any stage of his college career. Set that against Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson, who consistently produced a high level when in school.

That doesn’t matter though – right now online sportsbooks believe Baalke will play to type and go for the unpolished freak rather than the finished article.

48 hours Hutchinson was the favorite but now that has ALL CHANGED. Walker is now a -350 shot (bet $350 to win $100) with Hutch out at +500.

Don’t sleep on N.C. State OT Ickey Ekwonu either – he’s seen a lot of interest from bettors in the last couple of days. He’s now just +550 – this might not be a proper three-horse race but it’s close to being one.

Odds to be the first First Overall Pick

  • -350 Travon Walker (Caesars)
  • +500 Aidan Hutchinson (FanDuel)
  • +550 Ickey Ekwonu (bet365)

NB: Odds correct Thursday April 28, 2022

Travon Walker Odds to be Second Overall Pick

So sportsbooks have pretty much decided Travon is going #1 to the Jags, but that means if he doesn’t the odds to go #2 are pretty nice. To be precise, +1200. It would be stunning right now to see him go lower than #2.

Hutch of course heads the betting but the real interesting one is Oregon edge Kayvon Thibodeaux – just +140 as we head into the final hours before the Draft begins.

Other players listed in the odds include Florida State edge Jermaine Johnson, CBs Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner (Cincinnati) and Derek Stingley Jr (LSU) and Liberty QB Malik Willis.

Like the race for #1 overall though, this is really mostly about two players right now.

Here are your latest and best odds:

  • -167 Aidan Hutchinson
  • +140 Kayvon Thibodeaux
  • +1200 Travon Walker
  • +1600 Jermaine Johnson

NB: Odds correct Thursday April 28, 2022

How many Georgia players drafted in Round 1?

  • DE Travon Walker
  • DT Jordan Davis
  • DT Devonte Wyatt
  • LB Nakobe Dean
  • WR George Pickens
  • S Lewis Cine

Just some of the blue-chip Georgia talents hoping to go in Round 1 of the 2022 Draft.

No wonder then that sportsbooks believe the Bulldogs will go close to bettering the all-time record for first-round picks from a single college program. That is six – shared by the 2004-2005 Miami Hurricanes and the all-powerful 2020-2021 Alabama crew.

Right now PointsBet has the Over/Under set at 4.5. The Over is currently +110 with the Under at -140.

How many SEC players will be drafted in Round 1?

As ever the SEC is absolutely stacked with blue-chip prospects ahead of the 2022 Draft.

Even just Walker’s national champion Georgia team is likely to dominate Round 1 with an amazing array of talent on both sides of the ball.

Right now online sportsbooks set the Over/Under for SEC players to go in Round 1 at a staggering 10.5. FanDuel go -132 about the Over with DraftKings going +105 about the Under.

Travon Walker Measurables

So if he didn’t produce great numbers ON the field, why is everybody so high on Travon Walker?

Well that would be measurables – the things pro scouts just love.

Here are some of the measurables which have Walker projected right now to go #1 overall:

  • Height: 6ft 5ins
  • Weight: 272lbs
  • Arms: 35.5 ins
  • Hands: 10.75ins
  • 40-yard dash: 4.51
  • Vertical Jump: 35.5
  • Broad Jump: 123
  • 3-Cone Drill: 6.89
  • 20-yard Shuttle: 4.32

Pretty special traits, but what happens when he turns pro? We will find out soon enough…
