NFL Draft Betting: C.J. or Bryce to go #1 in 2023?

Dec 07, 2022Dec 23, 2022 Stryker Maguire

The 2022 NFL season is now getting to the business end and we already have one eye on 2023 NFL Draft betting.

While the pros are 13 weeks into their campaign, college football is just a little further ahead with the Heisman Trophy front runners getting ready for their big night in New York and playoffs and bowl games upcoming.

So what do those online sportsbooks think about how the seasons so far will affect next year’s Draft?

NFL Draft Betting Odds for 2023

There are a ton of great betting lines you can get involved in for the 2023 Draft. Here are the biggest.

Who will be the First Overall Pick?

The million dollar question people, and right now we have two very clear front runners – unsurprisingly both quarterbacks.

Ohio State standout C.J. Stroud and Alabama signal caller Bryce Young are battling it out to be favorite to go first overall next year.

Right now Stroud has the edge at odds of +215 with BetRivers, with Bryce on +220. A ton of sportsbooks though have the pair bracketed together on exactly the same odds.

After that we have a pair of defensive stars in Alabama OLB Will Anderson and Georgia DT Jalen Carter. Right now though we’d be staggered if a quarterback does not go at #1.

The best odds for the #1 overall pick in 2023 are as follows:

PlayerPositionSchoolOdds
C.J. StroudQBOhio State+215
Bryce YoungQBAlabama+220
Will AndersonOLBAlabama+600
Jalen CarterDTGeorgia+1800
Will LevisQBKentucky+2500

NB: Odds Correct on December 7, 2022

Which team will have the first pick?

Okay so we cannot rule out a trade messing up the order, but as of now you are looking for the team which has the fewest regular-season wins in the 2022 NFL season.

When the season kicked off this is how the line looked. Houston was a +300 favorite and you would likely not get those odds any more with the Texans sat with the league’s worst record at 1-10-1.

We await further sportsbook updates…

Houston Texans+300
Atlanta Falcons+400
New York Jets+800
Carolina Panthers+1000
Seattle Seahawks+1000

NFL Draft Order for 2023

Okay so as yet we do not have a draft order, that will start to fall into place once NFL games are played for real. We’ll update the draft order live as everything changes week by week in the pro game.

One thing to note already is that the Miami Dolphins have already lost one of their 2023 first-round picks after the league found them guilty of tampering with Bucs QB Tom Brady. Or “impermissible communications” as they prefer to call it. They also were found guilty of tampering with Saints HC Sean Payton. Loose lips…

There are now four teams who each have two first-round picks – and the ammo to get a top-tier QB. They are the Detroit Lions, the Houston Texans, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks.

The current draft order for Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft (correct on December 7, 2022) is as follows:

  • 1. Houston Texans
  • 2. Chicago Bears
  • 3. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver)
  • 4. Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams)
  • 5. Philadelphia Eagles (from New Orleans)
  • 6. Carolina Panthers
  • 7. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • 8. Arizona Cardinals
  • 9. Indianapolis Colts
  • 10. Atlanta Falcons
  • 11. Green Bay Packers
  • 12. Las Vegas Raiders
  • 13. Houston Texans (from Cleveland)
  • 14. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 15. Detroit Lions
  • 16. Los Angeles Chargers
  • 17. New England Patriots
  • 18. Washington Commanders
  • 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • 20. Seattle Seahawks
  • 21. Tennessee Titans
  • 22. New York Jets
  • 23. New York Giants
  • 24. Denver Broncos (From San Francisco via Miami)
  • 25. Baltimore Ravens
  • 26. Cincinnati Bengals
  • 27. Dallas Cowboys
  • 28. Kansas City Chiefs
  • 29. Minnesota Vikings
  • 30. Buffalo Bills
  • 31. Philadelphia Eagles

NB: If you are wondering why only 31 picks in Round 1, that is because of that forfeited Miami selection.
